Transparency Group Wants Ex Custom Boss ,Hamid Ali Prosecuted over N62 billion Unremitted Funds
The Transparency and Budget Monitoring Group (TBMG) is calling for an investigation into the alleged unremitted N62 billion funds by the Nigeria Customs Service during Hameed Ali’s tenure as Comptroller-General.
The group, which called for immediate arrest and protection of Hamid Ali,said all public funds looted by anyone past leaders must be recovered .
The Senate Public Account Committee has given the current Customs boss, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, a two-week ultimatum to defend against the accusation.
The TBMG in a statement signed by the Coordinator,Mr Garba Muhammad Gusau, urged the Senate to investigate the outstanding debts and financial discrepancies, ensuring transparency and accountability within the Nigerian Customs Service.
The controversy surrounds the discrepancy between the NCS’s reported total collection of N691 billion for the federation account and the actual remittance of N629 billion into the account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) .
Hameed Ali had appeared before the Senate Committee on Public Accounts to respond to queries in an auditor-general’s report but allegedly didn’t remit the funds before leaving office.
The group however suggested that Hameed Ali be investigated and prosecuted immediately.
